Kid's Playroom

June 4, 2021

We absolutely love designing kid's playrooms! A fun place for kids to imagine, play and just have fun being silly.

We have been getting questions lately about how to make your kid's playroom a truly fun space, but also functional as well. We believe that the room should be all about the kid's playing and having fun, but it doesn't need to sacrifice style when it comes to designing a playroom. We know that it's not always easy, so we put together some tips to help make it easier.

1.) Fabric

If you are going to have upholstery in the room, pay attention to the fabric. Choose performance fabric for durability. Leather, pattern fabric, and outdoor fabric are all good options. Crypton fabric is also a good choice, because it is made to withstand everyday messes, that you can just wipe away.

2.) Pattern

A pattern rug is a great choice when it comes to kid's spaces. Not only are they beautiful, but heavy patterns and colors can hide kid's messes from food stains to pet hair. A pro tip when it comes to a rug in a kid's space is to use an indoor/outdoor rug. They usually come in bright colors and patterns. They are incredibly durable too, since they are made to withstand the outdoors. All you have to do to clean them is hose down.

3.) Walls

Treat your walls. There are so many options on how to treat your walls. Let's just say that sheetrock alone will not withstand the wear and tear of kids. Bead board wainscoting is a great way to protect your walls. We a lot of time like to add a little bit of whimsy to the walls to make them fun for kids. Adding a rock wall let's them play and climb, or adding a chalkboard/whiteboard so the kids can freely draw and color on the walls.

4.) Storage

Investing in storage pieces such as a wooden bookshelf or built-ins can easily transition you up to the teenage years. Hide toys in baskets on shelves or in cabinets. Store books, video games, or board games on the shelves or in cabinets as well. Display stuffed animals, dolls, or vintage toys with a stack of books on the shelves, where they easily become accessories to the space!
